Association of Asian Confederation of Credit Unions (ACCU) organized the Virtual Credit Union Study Program on September 3, 2021, featuring Baridhara Mohila Somobay Somity Ltd. (BMSS) in Dhaka, Bangladesh which is a supporter member of ACCU. The participants consisted of 98 Asian Credit Union leaders from various countries. The purpose of the program is to introduce its business such as operation, history, members, size, challenges, products and services, member welfares and financial performance.
BMSS is one of the largest credit societies in Bangladesh. It was organized in 1996 with 2,376 members. Today it has grown to 58,000 members with a total asset over USD 7 million and 132 smart and skill staffs to provide services to the members of the society. All the female members are marginalized low-income groups such as labor workers and small traders. BMSS has received the Recognition Awards from the government as the best performance society. They provide several welfares and services to their members. The vision is to increase socio-economic capacity of the community women through establish women dignity in the men dominated society and sustain transformational development process. The mission is to develop a model cooperative by uplifting the skill of its members through training to generate income and involve them to savings and credit habits for sustainable development.
